Intercomp’s New High-Speed Strip Scales Feature Superior Accuracy With Ease-Of-Install

Intercomp Company (USA) – Intercomp’s new, revolutionary High-Speed Strip Scales provide In-Ground Weigh-In-Motion capabilities featuring industry-leading strain gauge load cell technology for increased accuracy, repeatability and fast response times. These scales exceed ASTM E1318-09 Type I, Type II, Type III, and COST 323 B+(7) or B(10) requirements for high volume data collection and screening for direct enforcement.

Intercomp Strip Scales are installed in grooves less than 3” (75mm) in the pavement, and can be installed in just one day, keeping lane closures to a minimum. The system weighs vehicles dynamically in the mainline axle-by-axle as they pass over the scales at speeds up to 80 mph (129 km/hr).

According to Eric Peterson, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Intercomp, “We set out to incorporate strain gauge load cell weighing, the same type used in static truck scales for direct enforcement, into a minimally invasive design, capable of weighing at high speeds. Our data from installations in North and South America and Europe demonstrates customers have an accurate, reliable, and cost effective alternative to piezoelectric sensors used for screening and data collection.”

The High-Speed Strip Scale systems include two strip scales units, but can be configured with 4 or 6 strips per lane for an even greater sampling rate. The Strip Scales can be integrated into a user’s existing system with analog output, or coupled with Intercomp’s WIMLOGIX Module which provides signal conditioning, data acquisition and basic processing.

Intercomp also offers a fully-integrated “Virtual WIM” (V-WIM) system, integrating scales, cameras, sensors and traffic control devices. A roadside WIM server sends data to the cloud, allowing users’ remote web access and control of all WIM related functions and devices. These systems work in tandem with commercial weigh stations or as a standalone device, screening for weight compliance and data collection.

Peterson concluded, “This offers our customers three distinct options: integrating Strip Scales into existing systems, Scales with a WIMLOGIX controller, or a complete turnkey solution for a complete Virtual WIM system.
